Copenhagen 短宣每日代禱信 - 8/10/06

Dear Prayer Partners,

The central train station in Copenhagen is a bustling hub. Many of the transient population of the city pass through here every day. Nowadays, more and more of them are Chinese. It is here that we have decided to spend most of today sharing the Gospel to Chinese and Asians who are passing by in their respective "transient” lives.

The team began the day meditating on God's word from Acts 8:26-40. We were encouraged to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit as Philip did and let the Holy Spirit work among us. What a day we have had being led by the Spirit!

Some of us were particularly nervous this day due to lack of personal evangelism experience. As we prepared, one sister suffered signs of physical sickness and felt very weak spiritually as well. Then two brothers got stuck in the elevator for more than 10 minutes. It was quite a scare for us all. We were keenly aware of the spiritual battle raging on from the very beginning. As we become eager to share the Gospel, we must be alert that the enemy of God is also busy at work. Satan is not happy with what is going to happen and will try many tricks to scare and stop us. But God's power of deliverance is real and God prevails every time we let him lead us to go forth.

We met more Chinese folks than we could take care of at the train station. Most of them were from mainland China. There were also many from Hong Kong and some were local Chinese families. We could feel God's spirit urging us to boldly share the Gospel to anyone nearby. As a whole, the team had more than 30 chances to share the gospel to Chinese there. It far exceeded our expectations. Every one of us had a chance to practice and more importantly, to experience the power of God's Spirit leading and compelling us to carry out His rescue mission. Though none accepted Jesus Christ on the spot, we are confident that the Gospel seeds have been planted in their hearts and will germinate according to God's timing.

We were very thankful that Pastor Gau, his wife Esther, and sister Ying came along with us. Pastor Gau came from Taiwan and was here for 3 months on an interim basis to help the church. He and his wife shepherded us along the way and his steady demeanor provided much assurance for the whole team. Sister Ying first came to know Jesus in Zhejiang province in China. She went through many struggles in her spiritual journey. We were very glad to see that she began to serve the Lord more in this new Chinese church. Sister Ying prepared a wonderful lunch for all of us and we enjoyed a special time of fellowship together in an outdoor plaza. Praise the Lord for He is good!

We started the evening meeting with some uncertainty. We did not know who would show up at first. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit we prepared our messages and testimonies that would touch the hearts of the participants. Thursday is normally an off night for the fellowship. We were very happy to see that quite a few people came despite of it. Among them were 5 people who had not been to church for almost a year.

Even though we struggled with inadequacy in many things, God's spirit was working continuously among us in song leading, short messages, testimonies, and sharing at the end. We were reminded over and over again that the moment we are determined to give up our self and willingly offer it as a living sacrifice, God will take what we have to offer and turn it into a blessing for all. Tonight we were once again humbled by His power of forgiveness.

At the end of our evening meeting, we learned about the terrorist threats on air travel between London Heathrow airport (the airport we travel to from US to London) and American airports. We were especially thankful that it happened after we arrived in London and consequently in Denmark yesterday. If it had happened a couple of days earlier, imagine what difficulties we would have carrying all the Christian literature to pass through customs.

Many of you are probably concerned about our safety. We want to assure you that we are safe in God's hands. Our immediate concern for the souls of our fellow Chinese far out weighs the concern of our traveling conveniences. We believe God will take care of his own flock in times of need. Dear brothers and sisters, the present trouble reminds us that this world is not our home. We shall long for a better home where we will be with our Savior and Lord forever. While we sojourn this earthly journey we must fix our eyes heavenward. Let us lift up high the Cross and spread the Gospel to the end of the world.

Come soon, Lord Jesus! You are the only hope for all mankind.

Please pray:

1. God's continual guidance in our personal evangelism efforts. We will be going to the busy shopping areas in Copenhagen and to visit some others.

2. God will attract those in need to come to the evening meeting. Pray that we will continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit and people will be encouraged spiritually. We need divine wisdom to lead the meetings so that there will be more interaction between STM members and the local Christians. Our goal is to encourage them to seek the Truth more fervently, to experience God at a deeper level, and to serve more faithfully in the church.

3. As we go further along in this mission trip, we will need more patience, love and care for all team members. We will also need more stamina to carry on.

Serving together in Christ,
