TAX-FREE QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTIONS (“QCD”) FROM IRA ACCOUNT

(also known as IRA charitable rollover)

Why:

  • Currently, if you have reached the age of 73 (or 75 for those born in or after 1960) and have money in the IRA account, you are required by law to withdraw a minimum amount each year (Required Minimum Distribution, “RMD”)
  • Failure to make such RMD is subject to a tax penalty (currently, up to 25% of the amount of RMD not withdrawn)
  • Money distributed to yourself is included in your taxable income resulting in an increase in your taxable income for the year
  • However, if you are 70.5 years or older, you are eligible to make tax-free Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA account

Benefits to donors:

  • Distribution (in 2026, up to $111,000 per year for each person) made from your IRA account directly to a 501(c)(3) organization like COCM counts towards the RMD in the year it is made
  • Tax-saving: Money so withdrawn will be excluded from your taxable income
  • Benefit even if you do not have enough income to deduct regular charitable contribution and/or do not itemize deduction
  • Note: The same distribution made in the form of QCD generates neither taxable income nor tax deduction
  • May reduce tax bracket and Medicare premiums and Social Security taxation
  • No need to come up with separate cash to make contribution
  • Supports COCM mission

How it works:

  • Contact IRA administrator to make QCD to COCM
  • Provide:

About

Our vision

Statement of Faith

The Chinese Overseas Christian Mission is committed to the fundamental truths of historic biblical Christianity, in accordance with which we affirm:

1 There is one, eternal God, Creator and Lord of heaven and earth who, in the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, both governs all things according to God’s will and is accomplishing God’s purpose in the world and in the church.

2 The Holy Scriptures as originally given are in their entirety inspired by God’s Spirit through human authors and constitute the revelation of God’s truth to humanity. They are wholly true and trustworthy in all that they affirm. Whatever the Bible, rightly interpreted, is found to teach, we are bound to believe and obey. It is our supreme authority in every matter of belief and conduct.

3 All human beings are created in God’s own likeness and therefore have inherent value and equality before God. Human sin and guilt since the fall have rendered us subject to God’s wrath and condemnation and have resulted in our alienation from God’s life, suppression of God’s truth and hostility to God’s law. God’s love desires all to come to repentance and to be reconciled rather than condemned.

4 Salvation from the guilt, penalty and all other consequences of sin has been achieved solely through the atoning work of Jesus Christ – his perfect obedience, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection and exaltation as Lord. Jesus alone is truly God and truly human, the only mediator between God and humanity. There is salvation through no other person, creed, process or power. Each sinner is justified before God and reconciled to God only by divine grace appropriated by faith alone.

5 The work of the Holy Spirit is necessary for the individual’s new birth and growth to maturity. The Holy Spirit empowers and indwells the church, enabling its constant renewal in truth, wisdom, faith, holiness, love, ministry, power and mission. The Holy Spirit equips all believers with gifts for ministry and these are to be used as the Bible teachers and to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

6 There is one, holy universal and apostolic church, which is the Body of Christ, and to which all true believers belong. Each local congregation is called to worship God, to preach God’s word, to baptise, to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, and to serve God in the world.

7 As the Father sent the Son into the world, so the Lord Jesus Christ sends his church to participate in God’s mission by words and works. The church is called: to make Christ known; to proclaim God’s truth and the gospel of God’s grace; to make disciples among all nations; to exhibit God’s character through compassionate care for the needy, creative and sacrificial living, the community of love, the quest for righteousness, justice and peace, and the care of God’s creation.

8 As the Lord Jesus ascended to his Father, so he will return personally, visibly and in glory. He will raise the dead and bring salvation and judgement to final completion. God will then fully establish his Kingdom and finish the new creation – a new heaven and a new earth from which all evil and evildoers, all suffering and death, will be excluded and in which God will be glorified forever.

our history

Chinese Overseas Christian Mission (COCM) is an inter-denominational mission with the objective of bringing the gospel to the Chinese scattered over Europe and local Europeans through multi-facet ministries. It was founded by Rev. Stephen Wang in 1950. The vision then was “Where the Chinese are, there Christ must be.”

In the past 60 years, we have grown substantially. The scope of work now covers UK and countries on the European continent. There are 4 Overseas Boards in different parts of the world. In July 2008, Rev. Henry Lu succeeded Mary Wang as our General Director. “Reaching the Chinese to Reach Europe” became our extended vision.

Mission Statement

In fruitful partnership with like-minded churches and para-church organizations:

Evangelizing the Chinese in Europe. Equipping and discipling believers to mature in Christ, take responsibility in Christian service through local churches and be God's servants to a needy world. Encouraging and supporting church and mission leaders to partner in mission, pass on the good news of salvation to people intra-culturally and cross-culturally throughout Europe and beyond.

Mission field

The late founder Pastor Stephen Wang began the gospel ministry among the Chinese in 1950 in which year the Chinese Church in London was established. In 1961, COCM was registered in the UK as a charity. Church planting was an integral part of the early ministry. Pioneer workers would establish CCF's, mostly made up of students, around the UK. Eventually, COCM would assist them in establishing a constitution and helping them to become churches.

Over the years, COCM has published various publications to promote the work. There has also been an increase in the work in Europe. With the development of the Training Department, Youth Department, and Intercessory Prayer Department, COCM prepares itself for the future

Our Ministries

Gospel team

COCM Gospel Team was established in May 2010. We partner with different local Chinese churches and fellowships to organize student gospel events across UK and European continent between August and November each year. All events are targeted for Mandarin-speaking students. Our work includes conducting evangelistic skills training; organizing evangelistic meetings and providing after-event support.

Mandarin Summer Camp

Starting from 2020, COCM has decided to change the family camp to summer and name it Mandarin Summer Camp. We have also decided to move the camp to a larger and safer campsite to accommodate more attendees. At the same time, the camp is positioned as a discipleship training camp that focuses on helping families grow spiritually, and young professionals are also welcome to participate. Children aged 3-12 will join the children programme, led by a professional children's ministry team, which not only allows the children to know the Lord from an early age, but also allows the parents to be fully engaged in the camp. In addition, PHAT Camp will be held at the same time but different campsite, teenagers over 12 years old are encouraged to join. Latest information: www.phat-camp.co.uk

PHAT

PHAT Camp is a 4-day event where hundreds of us, from all over the UK,

Year-End Student Gospel Camp

It aims to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, build up and strengthen their faith and provide serving opportunities for those Christians who committed themselves to grow and experience Christ. In this sense, not only mature Christian are welcome to the camp. There will also be proximally one third of seekers joining the camp along with some new-born Christians.
